About Katie
A warm welcome and thank you for visiting my blog. Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Katie! I come from a long line of creatives– woodworkers, DIYers, artists, bakers… it’s in my blood. I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. Picture late 1980’s when needlepoint was last trending. I have created this space to share projects, tutorials and products that make DIY and crafting easy and (mostly) affordable. I hope to inspire you to try something new along the way.
Also important to note, the key to my heart is twofold: coffee, and cardstock in ROYGBIV order. My craft desk is my happy place. I love creating unique designs in Cricut Design Space. Over the next few months, I’ll share tutorials and quick tips to help make it easier to work with your own Cricut. It always amazes me to learn that someone has a Cricut and they’ve never used it- not knowing where to start or afraid to make a mistake.

I love interior design and have a new found interest in power tools. Around the same time that I first found needle point (ahem- 1989), I could also be found rearranging the furniture in my room, organizing my closet and designing dollhouses. Two years ago, I renovated the interior of our family travel trailer- transforming the space from brown and dated to bright and modern (for less than $1,000 I might add)! I will share a full blog post on how I got started and the details of that project soon. I love frugal design- using what you have and DIYing what you can.
A New England native, I live in Southern New Hampshire with my family of four, plus “Coco” our Golden Retriever. Disney is my happy place away from home, everything about it from the movies to planning trips and visiting the parks. I am an alum of the Disney Institute and my bucket list includes visiting every park world wide!
My Mission is DIY
My mission is creating easy and affordable DIY, design and craft projects for all skill levels. With the today’s cutting machines (i.e. Cricut), apps and digital tools, it can feel like you need a design degree to craft. I share all the details of how I create projects in the blog, often with a link to share my Cricut Design with you too.
The Bright Side of DIY Blog is my small business! I am committed to spreading creativity, not excessive advertisements. You may find occassional advertisements, but I am committed to designing this space with you in mind. Ads and affiliate links will help me cover my cardstock addiction, but they are no extra cost to you! I will only share products and materials that I have tried and tested.
I hope you enjoy this space and come back again and again to learn and connect with me.
